Heroic van der Mark back at the top of STK600
Van der Mark might not have been 100% fit for the German Round, but he still managed to score a ‘full house' at the Ring, with pole position, victory, lead of the race from start to finish and fastest lap in 2'02"736. The EAB Ten Kate Junior Honda rider moved back into the lead of the championship, just two points ahead of his Team Italia FMI rider Riccardo Russo (Team Italia FMI), who finished runner-up.
"It was an amazing weekend for me," said van der Mark. "Two weeks ago I broke my collarbone and today I win the Superstock 600 race. To be honest, I can't believe it. The race was very hard and I had to push to the maximum. During the last three laps I got more and more pain but it was all worth it. Thanks to everyone who helped me during these difficult weeks, I'm very grateful to you all."
Michael van der Mark is now called upon to defend his two-point lead over Russo in the final two rounds at Portimao and Magny-Cours (7 ottobre), both circuits where he won last year.
